Celebrating Three Years In Business

September 18, 2012 marks the official start of @AfterHoursVA. Three years ago after obtaining my notary commission, I had a vision of starting a part time mobile notary business. Literally I jumped up that day and filed my DBA, obtained a business license, applied for an EIN and purchased a domain. 

This post is to encourage anyone to follow their dreams, visions or wild ideas. It just might turn into a business overnight!

Virginia Electronic Notary Process - eSeal

2nd step in obtaining my e-notary commission from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Thanks Acorn Sales Company, Inc. for the quick delivery of me e-seal. Now using my electronic signature/certificate along with this e-seal, I am ready to apply with the state today!

Virginia Electronic Notary Process

So excited!  I just completed the first step in becoming an e-notary in the state of Virginia.  I applied for and purchased my digital certificate/signature that conforms to X.509 digital certificate standards and issued and managed by a trusted root Certificate Authority as allowed by the Commonwealth.  Step 2 - apply to become an electronic notary.

Virginia Notary Seal

What information is required to be on a Virginia notary's seal/stamp?

A Virginia notary's seal/stamp must contain the name of the notary exactly as it appears on the notary's commission, the words "Notary Public" and "Commonwealth of Virginia."  Any information included on the notary's seal/stamp must be accurate.  The notary cannot strike through or white out an area to make a change.

Note:  Many notaries choose to add their commission expiration date and registration number to their notary seal/stamp.  That is an option and not required on the notary's seal/stamp.  Referring to the 2014 Virginia Notary Handbook, page 8, A notary's commission expiration date and registration number is required in the notary act itself.
